Awarded to the best French and Francophone cinema artists by foreign journalists working in Paris – in a similar vein to the Golden Globes – the 20th Lumières Awards will be given out on 2 February 2015. Céline Sciamma’s LUX Prize 2014 finalist Girlhood is one of the nominated films, vying for no fewer than three statuettes: Best Film of the Year, Best Director and Most Promising Actress for lead Karidja Touré.
Girlhood will have to duke it out with other films such as the three leading nominees: Bertrand Bonello’s Saint Laurent, Benoît Jacquot’s 3 Hearts and Eric Lartigau’s La Famille Bélier.
Sciamma’s latest film is thus continuing its successful streak, after being selected for the upcoming edition of the Sundance Film Festival, in the Spotlight section, one week before it opens in US theatres on 30 January.
