The Great Beauty takes home the Golden Globe

After being the big winner of the European Film Awards last December – grabbing the prizes for Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor –, Paolo Sorrentino’s The Great Beauty, which was part of the LUX Prize Official Selection, continues its successful awards path: it has now taken home the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film.
The melancholic and captivating depiction of the life of decadent “has been”  journalist and writer Jep Gambardella has dazzled the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). The Great Beauty overcame strong competitors such as Abdellatif Kechiche’s Blue is the Warmest Color and Thomas Vinterberg’s The Hunt.
The Golden Globes are usually considered an important indicator for the Oscars, and this win probably means that the feature will be on the run for the Best Foreign Film statuette. The final nominees will be unveiled on Thursday, January 16th, and things are looking better than ever for the Italian filmmaker.
