As I Open My Eyes in the running for an Oscar nomination

As I Open My Eyes
Leyla Bouzid’s LUX Film Prize finalist As I Open My Eyes will officially represent Tunisia in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the upcoming Oscars. A commission operating under the guidance of the National Centre of Cinema and Image (CNCI) decided the film submission.
Co-produced between Tunisia, France and Belgium, As I Open My Eyes was unveiled at the Venice Days of last year’s Venice Film Festival, where it earned itself the Europa Cinemas Label. The film’s depiction of the Arab Spring through the eyes of a young girl has been one of the most successful films from last year, receiving many accolades in festivals all around the world (Dubai, Namur, Stuttgart, etc.)
While waiting for the Academy’s decision, As I Open My Eyes will be a crucial part of the LUX Film Days, which will take the three LUX finalists on a journey around the whole continent. Bouzid’s film, alongside with My Life as a Courgette by Claude Barras and Toni Erdmann by Maren Ade, will be shown in festivals and special screenings across the 28 member countries, and subtitled in 24 official languages of the European Union.
The LUX Film Prize winner will be announced on 23 November 2016, and the nominees for the Oscars will be unveiled on 24 January 2017, before the ceremony takes place on 29 February 2017. Will As I Open My Eyes add the coveted American award to its list of trophies?
