After having vied for the Golden Globes (read news), and before doing it this Sunday at the Oscars (read news), Maren Ade’s beloved 2016 LUX Prize winner Toni Erdmann has an appointment with the independent film industry in the United States.

The Film Independent Spirit Awards, produced and voted for by Film Independent, the non-profit arts organization whose mission is to champion creative independence in visual storytelling and support a community of artists who embody diversity, innovation and uniqueness of vision, will be held this Saturday, 25 February, in Los Angeles. The ceremony will take place just one day before the big Oscars night.

Toni Erdmann is thus nominated for Best Foreign Film, against Kleber Mendonça Filho’s Aquarius, Athina Rachel Tsangari’s Chevalier, Arnaud Desplechin’s My Golden Days and Babak Anvari’s Under the Shadow.

Could this be another great weekend for Ade’s film?
