The Venice Days Award jury, chaired by Diego Lerman, has bestowed the Venice Days Award upon Return to Ithaca by Laurent Cantet (sold internationally by Funny Balloons; distributed by Haut et Court and Lucky Red), which featured in the 2014 Official Selection.

The jury, which comprised the participants in the European Parliament’s “28 Times Cinema” programme, justified their decision as follows: “With limited conditions of time and space, the filmmaker succeeds in delivering an emotional and complex take on dealing with the secrets of the past.” On the webpage, you can find the complete recording of the event at which the jury gave its verdict, which was broadcast as a live stream.

The prize consists of a trophy donated by the historic glassmaker Murano Seguso and a monetary award of €20,000, which is split equally between the director and the international distributor, which undertakes to use the amount received for promoting the winning film internationally.
